November Theme – Adult Animation
Deadline Friday 30th October

As a counter to our recent theme of ‘Children’s Animation’ we use this month to consider the animated films made for an adult audience. Though not as commonly discussed, or indeed exhibited in the mainstream as their childish counterparts, animation for adults is a varied and rich topic for exploration.

Topics include but not limited to:

–     Mature audiences only – complex content
–     R/X rated animation in animation history.
–     the rise of Adult Swim and the success of Archer
–     Adventure Time & Steven Universe, where audiences collide
–     Audience mis-inpterprentation and bad marketing.

Posts of between 300 and 500 words, which discuss any aspect of the above topic are welcome. Contributors are encouraged to include clips and images to support their posts. Please also include a short bio to accompany the post. All permissions are the responsibility of the contributor. Please contact the editor blog@animationstudies.org with submissions or questions.
